| Who was Takeda, Shingen? The name and historical background of our society is the life of Takeda Shingen. He was born in 1521 in the province of Kai and was given his first name Takeda, Taro. On attaining his majority at the age of 15, he changes his surname to Harunobu. Five years later he takes on the duties and the responsibilities of the head of the family. Together with his 24 officers, who are loyally devoted to him, he takes neighbouring provinces and enlarges his sphere of influence. In 1551 Takeda, Harunobu became a monk and took the buddhist name Shingen. After the death of Takeda, Shingen (in 1573) his vassals kept his death a secret for three years as a token of their loyalty. Even after his death he was admired by his population. |
