The army consisted of Samurai officers (Taisho), Samurai and soldiers on foot (Ashigaru).
The Samurai protected himself by a costly armour. A Samurai officer could be recognized
by an even more splendid armour with a more lavishly decorated helmet.

One of the most important distinguishing characteristics was the Samurai’s sword, which he only took off due to very important reasons. A sword (Tachi or (Katana) together with a dagger (Tanto) were the most important weapons of a Samurai during the 16. th century.
