Takeda Shingen was born on 3 November 1521 in Ichimizudaira castle as the eldest son of
Takeda
Nobutora, prince of the Kai province (now: Yamanashi prefec- ture). During his reign he recon- structed law and order, combined military and civil administration and provided the people of his province with more security and
wealth than that of the other provinces of Japan.
He involved economic experts in his governmental decisions and was the first to create a professional army and in addition, a judicial system that is still praised today.
His strategic skills and his tendency to fight decisive battles outside his territory and to win them with cunning and diplomacy, gave him high esteem.
This tactic also led to a strong economic power in
his region. His leadership was emulated by many others.
One should – so Takeda – use people's abilities and not the people themselves.
Takeda's name should be used in one breath with famous personalities known across the borders such
as Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Oda Nobunaga and never the less Ieasu Tokugawa, the later Shogun.
